ISS Announces Next Generation Portable 'Generator'
September 2011 - ISS introduces PowerSTAT Portable Power Source, which provides pure AC power for information radio stations...and anything of similar wattage that runs on 120 volts. Designed with a large battery pack and a high capacity charger/inverter, recharge time is just hours. PowerSTAT can perform tasks a generator cannot. It can operate in-line to instantly provide backup to mission-critical equipment should grid power go down. Its output is a pure sine wave, so it can power even sensitive electronic equipment with virtually no electrical noise. It is weather-resistant for outdoor applications, but because there is no exhaust, it can operate indoors, too, Because PowerSTAT never requires fuel, it is inexpensive to operate and ideal for situations when fuel is in short supply. And unlike a generator, it always starts. Check it out.

Workstation Audio Control (WAC) Advances
August 2011 - Version 2.1 of ISS' Workstation Audio Control option includes many new features. And existing ALERT AM and Information Stations can easily be upgraded. WAC functions as an audio source, allowing on-screen control of high quality broadcast messages from a single workstation or across a network. Natural audio recordings, text-to-speech generation, broadcast audio processing, visual audio editing, scheduled playlist changes, event logging and more are possible. Visit the WAC product page.

'CAP' Protocol Changes Do Not Affect NOAA Receiver Function
CAP regulations have been  mandated by the FCC to be backward compliant with existing standard receivers TV and radio stations use for EAS (Emergency Alert System) notifications. NOAA weather radio receivers, therefore, will work quite well after the change – including Specific Area Message Encoding circuitry. And the watches and warnings NOAA sends will be in the same (current) format.

L.O.S.T. Eighth Graders Design Evacuation Route Signs for Mount Rainier Lahars
In Federal Way, WA, an eighth grade class takes on a “Lights On Signs Technology” project in which they suggest (and ISS produces) signs to help the community with evacuations in the event of lahars (tsunami-like mud slides). See the story.

US Customs and Border Protection Agency Deploys Information Radio at Mexican Border.
CBP has launched two ISS information radio stations to advise US-bound motorists of traffic conditions and other helpful entry information. This pilot project, first implemented in El Paso and Laredo, Texas, in late 2011, is intended to be expanded to other points of entry if successful. See February 2012 CBP news release.

McGuire Air Force Base Becomes First Military Base to Utilize Twin High Efficiency Antenna Systems (along with Fort Dix and Lakehurst Naval Bases in New Jersey). These two synched antenna systems provide information radio service across three facilities. Employed in conjunction with five Flashing ALERT Signs (pictured below) that will be triggered when urgent messages are playing, signal coverage is much enhanced beyond that provided by the single standard efficiency antenna system that originally just covered McGuire Air Force Base itself.
