How to Report NOAA Station Problems to the National Weather
Service
Did you know the National Weather
Services has a way to report NWS stations that are off the air
or experiencing quality issues? If your system has an
EAS/weather radio receiver and you discover the NWS station
that sends audio to your area is either down or distorted,
it's important to report the problem to the NWS immediately.
Such issues affect your broadcasts directly. Click
here to go to a spot on the National Weather
Service website to efficiently report problems. |

Interference Advisory
If you operate on
1610 AM kHz in central Kentucky, radio station WRSL in Corbin,
Kentucky, has been granted a frequency change by the FCC that
will negatively affect TIS stations on 1610 in south central
Kentucky. Station WRSL is moving from 1520 to 1600 kHz. This
could cause significant daytime interference on the channel. |

Featuring You
Has your station
been used during the past year for big events or emergencies?
Has it been mentioned by external media? Do you have a
successful station-management plan?
If so, we'd love to produce a case study about your
application to publish. Why not show off a little? It could help others tasked with
communicating to travelers (so they don't have to reinvent the wheel).

at San Marcos Pass then
email us right
away. We'll follow through. |

NX8R Digital Message
Player
allows the user to record up to 1,000
high quality
broadcast messages and to store 80 minutes of recordings in
nonvolatile flash memory. No message (battery) backup is
required. The NX8R Player additionally provides 8 external
contacts that can initiate various message playlists, live audio
segments and event sequences.
The NX8R Digital Message Player was designed for ISS fixed and
portable specific-area radio stations, i.e., Travelers
Information Stations, Highway Advisory Radio and Emergency
Advisory Radio Systems.
It is a direct upgrade for earlier AP55/IP8 players.
Operation is based on similar protocols, so re-learning
is kept to a minimum.

Flashing
ALERT Signs controlled via two-way radio
system easily notify motorists to tune to your station.
Most operators can benefit from adding more
strategically located street signs within communities,
especially if existing signs don't flash. |

Global System
Mobile Communications
is fast becoming the most popular cellular protocol
across the globe with an estimated 80% of cellular
service providers using GSM protocol. ISS' GSM
Communications Package is not new. What is new is that
the FCC is now shutting down analog services for
cellular in various states; that is, AMPS/analog
services are being discontinued. If this is happening in
your area (or you want to anticipate it's happening),
request an ISS'
GSM Communication Package to ensure you can always
call your station. |
|
Power
Loss Notification Modules may be added to
stations to instantaneously and automatically dial up to
4 telephone numbers (including cell phones and pagers).
PLNMs have 5 programmable notification delay periods as
well as an internal battery backup.
Contact ISS for
more on this option. |

RealTIME
Transmitter Synchronization expands
coverage by linking several transmitters that can
simultaneously broadcast the same message(s). Grow your
system and your listenership as slowly or quickly as you
want. Note: RealTIME Synchronization is available for
ALERT AM Emergency Advisory Radio systems and ITS6000
Intelligent Highway Advisory Radio stations. Phone
landline, fiberoptics or Wireless Audio Links may be
chosen for audio distribution with this option. |
|
TR6000
Transmitter Systems are a good choice to
replace older, i.e., pre-1999, transmitter systems — for
better audio quality, reliability, longevity and
efficient use of power due to its Class D design. |

Computer-Managed
Audio comes 3 ways: |
1.
The
Information Station MP3 Edition with a MP3 player,
memory sticks, cords and optional recording software.
Digital messages may be transferred to the station on
memory sticks. |
2.
Workstation Audio Control comes with a computer,
recording equipment and software, hardwired to the radio
station with the ability to record, store and play up to
300 hours of messages, managed from a single
workstation. It may be used with the Classic Edition
Information Station and ALERT AM Emergency Advisory
Radio Stations.
See how Beverly Hills, California, retrofitted an older
station with Work Station Audio Control to get a
superior result. |
3.
ALERT AM and ITS6000 Intelligent Highways Advisory Radio
Network operators may add the
SignalcastIP Broadcast Programming Software Package
to single workstations or a computer network.
SignalcastIP includes software and a special digital
message programmer for wireless connection to the radio
station. This option offers text-to-speech and can
include program scheduling and sign-flash paging to
alert motorists via highway signs to tune in. |
